I guess in the end, I just didn’t know what to expect. But honestly, even with those expectations, I was still completely blown away when I read the first volume. So I figured there’s more to this story than time loops. When I actually got the physical copy, the back delved more into wishes and what would you do if you could make a wish. I thought, OK, we’re dealing with some sort of time loop. So going into this book, that’s the plot that I had in my head. During her introductions, she publicly singles out Kazuki and says that she’s transferred to this class I don’t know how many times and she’s going to break him no matter what. However, one day, his class gets a new transfer student who introduces herself as Aya Otonashi. The book is about a boy named Kazuki Hoshino who loves his ordinary and normal life and would do anything to preserve it. The Empty Box and the Zeroth Maria is a sci-fi light novel by Eiji Mikage with art by 415. I actually wrote this review right after I finished it, but it sat in my draft folder for years.

So when the first volume finally arrived in the mail a couple of years back, I read it right away. I was very patient … but probably not as patient as Aya Otonashi. I pre-ordered the first volume right when it was available for pre-order. When I heard The Empty Box and Zeroth Maria was finally getting an English translation back in back in 2017, I was super excited.
